Dr. James Mitchener
Dr. Mitchener, founder of Southern Tier Family Dentistry, combines advanced dental technology with compassionate, family-centered care to provide comprehensive, aesthetic, and restorative dentistry to the Southern Tier community.
A Jamestown native, Dr. Mitchener received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, after which he completed his General Practice Residency at Erie County Medical Center (ECMC). He is married with two children and has deep roots in the community. Following his residency, Dr. Mitchener worked briefly as an associate before starting his own dental practice, which is now Southern Tier Family Dentistry, PC. His vision for Southern Tier Family Dentistry has always been to offer the highest level of comprehensive care using modern dental techniques, and over the years, his practice has grown significantly as a trusted provider in the region.
Dr. Mitchener is particularly skilled in advanced aesthetic dentistry, offering patients a full spectrum of cosmetic services designed to enhance the natural beauty of their smiles. Dr. Stuart is a highly skilled dentist with a focus on advanced dental techniques. He graduated from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and completed an intensive residency at Erie County Medical Center, where he received specialized training in oral cancer diagnosis, management, and treatment. Residing in Frewsburg with his wife and four children, he remains actively involved in his church and community, reflecting his commitment to service and care.
Dr. Stuart’s expertise spans all areas of general dentistry, but he has developed a particular focus on advanced restorative dentistry, including 3D dentistry and crown design, ensuring precision and durability. He also excels in dental surgery, with advanced skills in complex tooth extractions, bone grafting, and surgical implant placement, using cutting-edge techniques to achieve optimal outcomes for his patients. His additional training in oral cancer during his residency has equipped him with a thorough understanding of early detection and comprehensive treatment options, making him a trusted expert in managing and treating oral cancer cases.

Dr. Shelby Rauh
Dr. Shelby Rauh, a compassionate hometown dentist and mother of two, provides patient-focused care and innovative dental treatments to the Southern Tier community.
Shelby Rauh, DDS, a native of the area and proud mother of two, brings a warm, compassionate approach to patient care at Southern Tier Family Dentistry, PC. A graduate of the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Rauh completed her residency at Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), where she honed her skills in comprehensive dental care and developed a passion for helping patients feel comfortable and confident in their oral health.
Dr. Rauh is deeply committed to continuing education and staying current with the latest advancements in dentistry, ensuring that her patients benefit from innovative treatments and the highest standard of care. She believes that quality dentistry is built on a foundation of empathy, trust, and lifelong learning, and she strives to make each patient’s experience comfortable and rewarding.
